  You make money in a lot of ways. Mission, mining, PVP, griefing, piracy, etc. CCP, the makers of EVE, allow players to buy game time cards from them and then sell them for in-game currency. Real money only changes hands between CCP and the people buying cards they want to sell. Players can also sell their characters for in-game currency the same way, there's an account transfer fee to put the sold characters on the buyers account and that money also goes to CCP so the company is the only one actually making real money, the sellers and buyers are just trading in-game currency for time or a character.
  
  Once you get settled in, which took me 2 months, money is easy. I make enough money to buy a 60-day game time card in about a few days if I push hard, casually it's only about 2 weeks.

  $14.99 a month I believe. I only had to pay for 2 months before I started making enough money in-game to buy game time cards from other players. I haven't spent real money on the game in 6 months.
